For Alaina Bergsma, first time was a charm as she was able to capture the crown of Miss Oregon USA 2012. This statuesque blonde, standing 6’3” will be hard to look past as she represents the beautiful state of Oregon in the national pageant, Miss USA®.
More than just a beauty queen Alaina Bergsma, Miss Oregon USA 2012, is a talented athlete, student and a compassionate volunteer. Born on March 30, 1990, Daughter of David and Shawna Bergsma, she was born in Arizona and moved to Oregon with the incredible opportunity to play volleyball for the Ducks. Alaina is a senior at the University of Oregon where she is obtaining a degree in Business Administration focusing on Sports Marketing with a minor in Economics.
As a 2008 graduate of Valley Christian high school, she graduated with honors. She participated in Varsity Basketball, Track and Field, and was the captain of the Volleyball team. Alaina was also a member of the National Honor Society and Student Council. She was Student Body Vice President her senior year and was awarded her first crown as Homecoming Queen. Miss Bergsma was also a member in the Chandler Service Club and completed over one hundred hours of community service her senior year.
As the captain of the University of Oregon Ducks Volleyball Team, Alaina led the Ducks to a successful 2011 season, making it all the way to the NCAA playoffs. Alaina is a decorated volleyball player as an All American NCAA athlete, two-time All Conference selection, and Conference Freshman of the Year. She was a member of the USA Volleyball A2 National Team and traveled in China during the 2010 summer for competitions. As a redshirt-junior she will compete in her last season as a Duck in 2012.
Despite her NCAA Division I athlete responsibilities, she was named to the Pac-12 All Academic team boasting a 3.7 GPA. Alaina is involved in several organizations offered through the U of O and has shown a real interest in giving back to the community, participating in multiple events put on by the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee. The organization is involved in numerous community service opportunities throughout the year and is better known in the community as O Heroes. Alaina volunteers at the Boys and Girls Club and has participated in events such as Read Across America, Dance Marathon, judging Mr. Lancer at Churchill High School and helped at various local volleyball clinics and practices. Alaina regularly attends CrossTraining, a Bible study comprised of student-athletes. Her volunteer efforts have brought her off campus as well, as she has spent time volunteering at a local middle school helping with homework club where she tutors kids. Alaina has always made it a point to be a leader in her community.
