Manju is a physicist, actor, model, and founder of two nonprofits. Since dreaming about becoming an astronaut when she was a child, Manju has worked at two NASA centers and in the White House. She is now enrolled in a postgraduate program training her to go to space one day. In addition to her scientific accomplishments, her acting and modeling careers have taken her from working with Beyoncé to shooting with Sports Illustrated. Miss Oregon USA 2003 Myah Moore Irick has been a proud Congeniality sponsor of PageantsNW for the past few years, awarding $2400 scholarship annually total in the teen and miss divisions.

For the 2024 class, the Myah Moore Irick and Jaime Irick Scholarship Fund will be giving out academic scholarships- $300 for the teen and $500 for the miss divisions for ID, OR and WA.

Furthermore, The Irick Group will also be providing financial literacy & coaching to our 2024 state queens, which includes financial goal setting.

Today is the anniversary of Cheslie Kryst’s transition and I wanted to share a few words in her memory.

Cheslie is one of the people who made me feel like pageantry was a safe space for me. She made me feel like I could be vocal about the issues I care about and use my voice for change. She made me feel like the future is bright.

I also wanted to share a few words about suicide prevention.

Sharing the hotline is a good first step, but it’s deeper than temporary help from a trained stranger who’s talking through a script.

So what does help? What could help? I don't know that there is just one solution. But between the societal pressures and judgment and trauma people experience, along with lack of resources to long-term healthcare and basic necessities, we have a lot we need to work on and fix. Housing is suicide prevention. Food security is suicide prevention. Sexual assault prevention is suicide prevention. Healthcare access is suicide prevention. Community is suicide prevention.

But the number one thing I believe we need to do is share our stories. I've been told to shut up and sit down a countless number of times when I've tried to share the story of what my mental health used to look like. I've been told it made me look unstable, it made me look crazy. As if other people's perceptions of us are more important than our actual lives.

In 2019, there were over 1.3 million suicide attempts in the U.S. alone. We have to create spaces for people to share what they are going through *before* they get to the point of suicidal ideations and attempts.

Social media is such a small slice of what we know about each other. And it's not always real. Please take that into account before you speak ill or pass judgment on someone. You never know what they may be going through.

Rest In Power, Cheslie. I hope Heaven is celebrating your light and all that you are.

Looking forward to spending the day in Portland at the 38th Annual OHSU Parkinson’s Symposium representing @paintingwparkinsons 💖

As many of y’all know, I started this org two years ago in honor of my father, who has been battling Parkinson’s for over a decade. He has always been an artist, but as his disease progressed, he lost touch with his creative side.

Art therapy has been clinically shown to improve major Parkinson’s symptoms, including tremors and mood 👩🏾‍🎨🎨

So when forming the organization, I decided our mission would be dedicated to reconnecting people in the Parkinson’s community with their inner artist. We provide free painting kits and free monthly art classes to anyone in the community ✨

We are not only hosting a booth today, but also leading an art workshop right before lunch! Huge thank you to OHSU for allowing us to partner and for making this incredible event happen!
